Raw materials

It all started with a feather

Discover how Empro unlocks the nutritional and functional potential of poultry feathers and other protein-rich side streams, transforming them into valuable ingredients and new applications.

Feathers are one of the most protein-rich raw materials in the poultry chain, yet for decades they were treated as a low-value residue. Empro was founded on a simple conviction: that keratin, the protein that makes a feather strong and flexible, could become a valuable nutritional building block.

From keratin to digestible protein

Raw keratin is almost indigestible. Through controlled hydrolysis, we break the protein structure down into digestible proteins, soluble hydrolysates, peptides and free amino acids. Adjusting temperature, pressure, time and enzymes gives each ingredient its own protein level, digestibility, solubility and taste profile.

More than feathers

The same thinking applies to poultry meat, skin, bones and other protein-rich components. Every side stream follows a dedicated processing route, resulting in protein meals, hydrolysates, purified fats and highly palatable ingredients for premium pet food.

New applications

Because we keep learning what these proteins can do, our raw materials now also find their way into agricultural biostimulants, functional ingredients and research into protein-based renewable materials.
