Tijdens deze bijeenkomst brengen de verschillende partners een update van de voortgang binnen het Aquavlan2-project. We maken van de gelegenheid gebruik om de experimenten in het SEAlab van HZ University of Applied Sciences te bezoeken.

In samenwerking met het stadsbestuur van Dendermonde organiseert Empro op dinsdag 27 februari 2018 om 19.30 u in het Technisch Centrum, Hoogveld 28 te Dendermonde (parking en fietsenstalling via Vosmeer) een infovergadering omtrent de recente geurproblematiek en de nieuwe geurbehandelingsinstallatie die in week 7 in gebruik genomen wordt. Na de uiteenzettingen kunnen vragen gesteld worden.

Binnen het Interreg-project Aquavlan 2 – waaraan Empro Europe meewerkt – organiseert de onderzoeksgroep Aqua-ERF van Odisee een introductiecursus aquacultuur. Zowel studenten als andere geïnteresseerden zijn welkom.

In het project Aquavlan2 krijgen ondernemers een unieke kans om zeer bedrijfsspecifieke vragen te laten beantwoorden via een voucher. Zes bedrijven dienden samen vier voucheraanvragen in. Drie aanvragen werden in de maand april 2017 goedgekeurd voor uitvoering. De Vlaamse firma’s Crevetec, Lambers-Seghers, Proviron, Joosen-Luyckx-Aqua-Bio en het Nederlandse Aquaculture Farming Technology (AFT) krijgen zo ondersteuning in hun R&D. Geïnteresseerde bedrijven kunnen hun voucheraanvraag alsnog indienen.

Voucheronderzoek 1: broodstock van tropische zoutwatergarnalen

De eerste aanvraag kwam van de firma’s CreveTec, Proviron en AFT. Aquavlan2-partners Universiteit Gent en ILVO nemen dat voucheronderzoek voor hun rekening.

Firma’s die tropische zoutwatergarnalen (Litopenaeus vannamei) produceren, moeten hun juvenielen (babygarnalen) tot op heden buiten Europa inkopen. Daardoor is de kwaliteit en de kwantiteit van de productie sterk afhankelijk van de buitenlandse leveranciers. In dit voucheronderzoek zullen de bedrijven en onderzoekers een broodstock (groep ouderdieren) van tropische zoutwatergarnalen aanleggen, de dieren tot reproductie brengen en de voeding en het leefmilieu (zoals watersamenstelling) van de ouderdieren en larven optimaliseren.

Voucheronderzoek 2: forelvoer

Projectpartner Odisee zal de voucheraanvraag voor de firma Lambers-Seghers op zich nemen. De firma wil een welbepaalde kern gebruiken op basis van Single Cell proteins (SCP) ter vervanging van vismeel en visolie in forelvoer. De firma en onderzoekers zullen samen bepalen wat het juiste recept is voor de inmenging van de kern, zodat de forel nog goed (rendabel) groeit in een kwekerij maar toch minder vismeel en visolie consumeert.

Voucheronderzoek 3: grondsmaak detecteren in steur

Ook de voucheraanvraag van de Vlaamse kaviaarproducent Aqua-Bio werd goedgekeurd. In dat voucheronderzoek gaat het bedrijf in samenwerking met ILVO op zoek naar een werkbare methode om grondsmaak (geosmine en 2-methylisoborneol) te detecteren in levende steur.

Geïnteresseerde bedrijven kunnen alsnog deelnemen

Het Aquavlan 2-project is een project binnen het Interreg V-programma Vlaanderen-Nederland, het grensoverschrijdend samenwerkingsprogramma met financiële steun van het Europees Fonds voor Regionale Ontwikkeling.

Experiments are ongoing to separate our protein concentrate into smaller peptide fractions with different molecular weight ranges.

Spraydried hydrolysates with a molecular weight lower than 5000 dalton are now available. Feel free to ask your sample with preferred molecular weight range.

In a recent feeding trial with young L. vannamei shrimp, we have fed practical diets in which the fishmeal (20% in the control diet) was replaced by different concentrations of Empro’s protein meals. After 6 weeks of feeding we could conclude that a replacement of up to 68% of the LT fishmeal with the Empro meals had no negative effect on growth and positively influenced the survival. In practical shrimp diets, the replacement of a large part of the LT fishmeal by Empro’s protein meals will lead to a significant cost reduction and thus to a more cost efficient and sustainable production.

Aquavlan2 supports aquaculture companies situated in Flanders and the Netherlands in their technical and innovative challenges. Further development of techniques should allow them to close fresh – and salt water aquaculture cycles, develop new feed for fish and shellfish and prevent the earthy flavour in aquaculture products. Other companies get  the unique opportunity to answer specific questions through a voucher system. In this way the aquaculture sector can be extended and existing companies can strengthen their global competitiveness.

We have just finished a feeding trial with juvenile seabream which were fed practical diets in which the fishmeal (24% in the control diet) was replaced by different concentrations of Empro’s premium feather meal FM 725.

After 3 months of feeding we could conclude that the inclusion of 3, 6 or 9% of Empro’s FM725 results in similar performance of seabream in terms of survival, growth and FCR. This means that replacement up to 43,3% of the LT fishmeal 999 with FM725 does not affect growth parameters nor survival. In practical seabream diets, the replacement of a large part of the LT fishmeal by Empro’s FM725 will lead to a significant cost reduction and thus to a more cost efficient and sustainable production.

Empro joins forces with 5 universities (ODISEE, PCG, UGENT, Inagro, HZ University of Applied Sciences) for a 3,5mil. International research project on aquaculture financed by Interreg (European Union) and the Province of Eastern Flanders.

The project is called Aquavlan 2 in which Empro will research its feather meal and derivatives on how these can be further improved for aquaculture and its niches. There’s also 300K available for research questions originating from the industrial partners. For more info feel free to contact us.

Empro was present at the Indian International Seafood Show in Visakhapatnam, India, from 23 to 25 September 2016 where the most important local aquafeed companies were present.
